Peru is considered the third largest producer in South America after Brazil and Colombia, and was originally recognised as a producer of low-quality certified and Fairtrade coffee.

However, in recent years it has gained new attention as a high-quality organic coffee production area, partly due to its traditional use of organic farming.

The producers, the Fernandez family, are a family of parents, siblings and cousins who produce excellent coffee on their own small plantations in the Colasay district of Jaen department in northern Peru.
